Our Great Loop Cruising Report

Our Great Loop Cruising Report

The Lola Marie

The Dream

The genesis for this adventure was a 1991 diary by Lyn Hornack, an American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers Foundation employee, of her great loop cruise with husband Lee aboard Poseidon, a wood Matthews. That diary planted the seed of an idea for a great retirement adventure. The seed germinated and began rapidly growing when we purchased and read Ron and Eva Stob's wonderful book Honey Let's Buy a Boat.

The Planning

After reading Ron's and Eva's book, we set about seriously planning by joining America's Great Loop Cruisers Association, AGLCA. Beginning with the June 2004 AGLCA rendezvous in Petersborough, Ontario, we attended three consecutive rendezvous'. Attendees provided great advice about preparing for and making the trip. We spent the '04 winter and '05 spring readying our 4788 Bayliner, the Lola Marie, for our adventure.

The Beginning

This web provides a day-by-day synopsis of our trip, which began May 27, 2005 from St. Joseph/Benton Harbor, MI.
